Last week, rapper Ahmer and producer Kreon dropped the video for their anthemic new song, ‘Ajeeb’. The track is a part of Azadi Records’ new compilation album, Sounds of Resistance Vol. 1, which features both old and fresh tunes.
The collaboration signals an exciting new sound from the politically-charged rapper and marks a departure from his standard sound for a bassy banger.
The music video tells the story of a ruthless lone ranger on the run, concluding in a cliffhanger showdown. With a dazzling array of gritty sequences, it has all the ingredients of a gripping action thriller. Director Janamejaya Daroz’s visuals feel both cinematic and charged up with a juxtaposition of quick cuts, slo-mo, and aerial shots. Little vintage flourishes, like the use of filters and film grain, overlays with the Ambassador getaway car, complete the distinct visual aesthetic.
Hailing from Srinagar, Ahmer emerged on the scene last year with his breakout debut album Little Kid, Big Dreams. He also self-produced his next project Inqalab, an EP created in response to the abrogation of Article 370. Kreon aka Rabhaya Chopra is a New-Delhi based producer. His last release ‘Closure’, was a single in collaboration with singer-songwriter Lojal.
